Enhancing Your Appearance: Information about Cosmetic/ Plastic Surgery
Cosmetic/ Plastic Surgery is defined as a pleasing appearance or effect. To those seeking surgery, the desired goal is an enhancement or change of facial or body appearance.

Cosmetic/ Plastic surgery and treatment procedures are designed to rejuvenate skin or change the shape or size of a body feature for the purpose of improving appearance.

While Cosmetic/ Plastic surgery may not be the ideal option for every person seeking personal improvement, it offers an alternative to the visible consequences of age or to undesirable facial or body features. To determine if Cosmetic/ Plastic surgery might be of benefit to you, it is important to be well informed.

The following pages address some commonly asked questions. Additional information about the specifics of your personal concerns may be gained through a consultation with reconstructive surgeon.

    Questions & Answers

Q1. What will happen during the initial Plastic / Cosmetic surgery consultation?

A1. The surgeon will take your health history and discuss your concerns. Pre-op photos will be taken during this visit and then discuss your surgical options and you will see the surgical coordinator if you choose to schedule surgery.

Q2. Who Is a Good Candidate for Cosmetic/ Plastic Surgery?
A2. If you are in good health and have realistic expectations about Cosmetic/ Plastic surgery, you are a good candidate. Smoking and some habits may increase the risks for complications both during and after surgery procedures. And, if you have underlying medical conditions, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or heart disease, you take on greater risks for any surgery and you have to inform the surgeon about your medical history.

As you consider undergoing Cosmetic/ Plastic surgery, please understand that these procedures cannot perform miracles or achieve absolute perfection. They can, however, improve how you feel about the way you look. A good candidate has realistic expectations about the outcome, knowing the limitations of Cosmetic/ Plastic surgery in achieving the desired goals. These issues will be discussed in detail during your clinic visit.

Q3. What is the recovery time for most plastic surgery and Cosmetic surgery procedures?
A3. Recovery times vary depending on the procedure you choose. However, most patients will need to have sutures intact for 5 – 7 days after their procedure. And we recommend that you not return to work or take part in any strenuous activity prior to your sutures being removed.

Q4. What should I expect in terms of necessary follow up visits?
A4. All procedures differ, but most patients have sutures intact for 5-7 days. We may want to see you during that period and we will certainly need to see you to remove your sutures when it is time for them to be removed.

All Plastic / Cosmetic surgery follow-up visits are included in the surgical fee for one year or post op. After that office visits are charged at regular rates.

Q5. What is included in the overall fee for my procedure?
A5. An outline of fees will be discussed with you by the surgical coordinator.

Q6. How quickly can I schedule a plastic surgery or Cosmetic surgery procedure?
A6. Surgery can usually be performed within a 2 – 4 week period.

Q7. Is your surgeon a board certified plastic surgeon?
A7. Yes, Dr. Alaa A. Sultan
